Chapter 22
Does the umbrella symbolize anything? Nakata wants to carry it around everywhere.
It seems like when Nakata gained the ability to speak to cats, he lost his ability to speak to people. In a way. He doesn't really know a lot of words and can't relate or understand a lot of things people say.
Nakata doesn't seem to really feel anything. There's that thing about his shadow being paler than other people's shadows again. He isn't complete. Who is his other half?
What does the sea symbolize? It must symbolize something. I wonder if it's like the spiritual world. It must be important because the title has to do with the shore, which is next to the sea. The sea is dark, mysterious, violent, yet peaceful, seems to go on forever... It could be symbolizing the world where the souls go to meet up with each other. It's a mystery and seems endless. But it connects everyone.
